Mechanics
Mechanics:
Competitive pokemon has alot of mechanics.
This page will go over the more common mechanics that you will have to account for in a battles.
These mechanics may also only apply to generation 1 OU (standard play).
STAB and ailments are the 2 most fundamental mechanics which revolve around generation 1 OU.
- Stab is a core mechanic to Generation 1 singles.
- Stab stands for same attack type bonus
- Stab makes you do 1.3x damage if your pokemon's type is the same type as the move it uses.
- So if a normal type pokemon used a normal type move it'd do 1.3x damage.
- Pokemon that have 2 types also get stab for both types.
- So if Starmie (a water and psychic type) uses a water or psychic move, stab would be applied for both.
- Status conditions are another key mechanic in generation 1 Pokemon
- Status conditions are seperated into 2 types.
- Major conditions can only have 1 applied at a time. If another status would be applied, it wouldn't.
- Minor conditions allow for multiple of them to be applied at the same time.
- Major conditions also have a feature where if the defending pokemon is the same type of the attacking move, it cannot recieve the condition from the attacking move.
